What is Hacienda Verde?

Hacienda Verde is a spectacular private ecological reserve in Utuado, Puerto Rico. The Hacienda is made up of 370 acres at 2,500 feel above sea level only an hour and a half from San Juan and an hour from Ponce. It used to be a coffee plantation and is surrounded by other forest lands.

It has a large continuous tropical forest in excellent state of conservation, which includes large areas of primary old forests very rare in Puerto Rico, with important tree species and rare flowers, as well as four ravines, waterfalls and spectacular scenic views. One can see the sea for over 180 degrees, as well as karsic formations and the highest peaks of the Central Mountain range. These forests provide a home to large populations of birds and wild life.

Part of the land, 270 acres out of the total 370 acres area is destined for a Conservation Easement by the Fideicomiso de Conservación de Puerto Rico, or any other Land Trust. This leaves another 100 acres made up of agricultural areas, already impacted and for the development of a Mountain Resort which takes advantage of the isolation and scenic beauty for a “Mountain Retreat”. The Planning Board has already approved an Ecological-tourist project consisting of 50 villas in 1,200 square meters lots minimum. This approval includes an Eco-Lodge and a Health Spa. We have the flexibility to determine a combination of Ecovillas, Condo hotel or Eco-Hotel.

The concept is for a “Sustainable Nature Resort Community” as far as water and energy resources, besides already producing and marketing organic products as well as traditional agriculture. We have a conceptual presentation with 12 schematics including a master design plan. We have topography plans for the construction areas and a master design plan.

Master Plan

The hacienda has three residential constructions; 13 acres of shade coffee and 37 additional acres planted with care with conservation practices, with orange trees, plantains and ground provisions. Pictures of proposed structures are coming soon!
